Grand Opening
The festival kicked off on July 4 in a festive atmosphere at the Grand Hall Thermal Hotel, and we were there. The opening film was the documentary We’ve Got to Frame It!, dedicated to the memory of the recently deceased festival president Jiří Bartoška. The jury presidents presented awards – the Festival President’s Award – to notable actors:
- Peter Sarsgaard for his role in Shattered Glass (2003)
- Vicky Krieps, known from Corsage (2022) and planning the release of Love Me Tender (2025)
- Dakota Johnson, who presented Splitsville and Materialists
The festival brings the entire city to life. Thousands of visitors stroll along the colonnades, sip mineral water, and this year also enjoy our collagen. In total, over 130 films from around the world were shown. The 59th edition of Karlovy Vary successfully combined international film stars, strong cinematic content, and emotionally powerful documentaries.
